After a 2015 season to forget, New York City FC undoubtedly accomplished one of their goals this season on Friday when they qualified for the Audi 2016 MLS Cup Playoffs.
David Villa and Khiry Shelton led the way as they clinched their spot with a dominating 4-1 win against the Chicago Fire at Yankee Stadium. Villa bagged a brace to bring his season total to 19, just one behind Bradley Wright-Phillips for the Golden Boot lead.
Shelton had three assists to get his season total up to nine in just 1,002 minutes. NYCFC will now fight to climb to the top of the East, as they are currently tied with Toronto FC and the New York Red Bulls.
