After eight years apart, Osvaldo Alonso has finally reunited with his father.
The Sounders midfielder hadn’t seen many of his family members since defecting from Cuba in 2007, with his relatives unable to leave the island to travel to the States and Alonso barred from returning to Cuba. The recently improved diplomatic relations between the countries have changed that, however, and Alonso’s father was able to secure a visa to make the trip to see his son in Seattle this week.
And what better way for a son to introduce his dad to the States than by taking in America’s pastime?
More Alonso family reunions are in the works, with Ozzie set to take a trip back home to Cuba for the first time since his defection this offseason.
