AMSTERDAM – Werder Bremen forward Aron Johannsson had successful abductor muscle surgery on Tuesday, but the Bundesliga side is not quite ready to put a timetable on his return to the field.
This is the second time in 2015 that the US international has missed time with an abdominal strain. Johannsson was originally expected back a few weeks ago, but rest, physio work and treatment were not doing the trick.
"We don't know how long he will recover before being able to train," Bremen press liaison Marita Hanke told MLSsoccer.com. "It will surely be more than two or three weeks."
Johannsson has hit twice in six league contest since arriving at Weserstadion this summer from AZ Alkmaar. He also missed time this preseason with a similar setback suffered on Gold Cup duty.
