ST. PETERSBURG, Russia – Free agent Bodo/Glimt defender Zarek Valentin has a fresh extension offer from the club, MLSsoccer.com has learned, as well as a competing bid from a Norwegian rival.
Sources on both sides of the Atlantic have also informed MLSsoccer.com that the right back has interest from at least one team in Major League Soccer, but no contract offer to go with it at this time. Time may be running out to bring the former Montreal Impact and US youth national team defender back to his home league, with multiple sources expecting Valentin to make a decision on his future soon.
The 24-year-old had a strong first full Tippeligaen season with Glimt after losing most of the 2014 campaign with an Achilles tendon tear. Valentin, who helped the Aspmyra Stadion crew earn promotion to the top flight in 2013, logged a goal and four assists in 24 appearances, 23 of which were starts.
