Reigning MLS Golden Boot winner Josef Martinez picked up where he left off in 2018 with two goals as MLS Cup champions Atlanta United opened their 2019 preseason slate with a resounding 7-1 win over the Seattle Sounders on Saturday afternoon at Titan Stadium in Fullerton, Calif.
In a match that ran 120 minutes -- four periods running 30 minutes each -- Atlanta's big offseason signing Gonzalo "Pity" Martinez netted his first goal for his new club via penalty kick. Dion Pereira also scored twice in his ATLUTD debut.
Atlanta United are 19 days away from opening Concacaf Champions League Round of 16 play on Thursday, Feb. 21 at Costa Rican side CS Herediano. The Sounders' first official competitive match comes in Week 1 of the MLS regular season when they host FC Cincinnati on March 2 (10ET, FS1 and FOX Deportes).
