Atlanta United brought several big guns to South Carolina for Tuesday's Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup match against the Charleston Battery in the tournament's fourth round. They will just have to wait to use them.
Tuesday's game was postponed shortly before scheduled kickoff due to "poor field conditions" at MUSC Health Stadium on Daniel Island. A time and date for the match will be set by noon ET on Wednesday, according to the teams.
Atlanta United had named a starting lineup that included Franco Escobar, Miles Robinson, Jeff Larentowicz, Darlington Nagbe, and Pity Martinez, as well as US youth international Andrew Carleton and former Charleston scoring ace Romario Williams.
The teams played in each of the last two Open Cup tournaments, with Atlanta winning both times against their USL affiliates. Atlanta United are not scheduled to play again until June 26, but the Battery play each of the next two Saturdays in USL Championship action.
Much of South Carolina's Lowcountry is under a National Weather Service flash flood watch for Tuesday and Wednesday, with heavy rain and thunderstorms expected.
