TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Signing
Atlanta United have signed free-agent goalkeeper Bobby Shuttleworth for the 2022 MLS season with an option for 2023, the club announced Friday.
Shuttleworth, 34, brings 231 regular-season and Audi MLS Cup Playoff appearances across 13 years with three different MLS clubs.
“Bobby is a veteran goalkeeper with many years of experience in MLS and we’re pleased to add him to our roster,” Atlanta United VP and technical director Carlos Bocanegra said in a release. “He brings experience and competition to our goalkeeping group.”
Shuttleworth joins Atlanta as the likely No. 2 goalkeeper behind longtime starter Brad Guzan. Former backup goalkeeper Alec Kann departed in free agency for FC Cincinnati this offseason, leaving a hole on the depth chart.
Earlier this offseason, the Five Stripes also landed Dylan Castanheira (trade with Inter Miami CF) and Justin Garces (homegrown) as other goalkeeping options.
Before coming to Atlanta, Shuttleworth spent two seasons with Chicago Fire FC. He also joined Minnesota United FC ahead of their expansion season in 2017 and originally broke through with the New England Revolution.
