Josef Martinez has won the Week 26 GOTW prize in a landslide, with his beautifully-crafted, coolly-taken opener in Philadelphia nabbing a commanding 64.75% of the vote. Unfortunately for Atlanta United, the first goal in the showdown between Eastern Conference leaders was not sufficient for victory, with the Union storming back to claim a 3-1 victory at Talen Energy Stadium.
Portland’s Diego Valeri finished a distant second, as his sweetly-struck drive from distance in the Timbers’ crucial 1-0 win over Real Salt Lake garnered 13.16% of ballots cast. Minnesota United sensation Mason Toye took third place, with 11.66% of voters picking the first of his two strikes in the Loons’ 2-0 road upset of LAFC.
Philly’s Kacper Przybylko came in fourth at 6.91%, while the left-footed blast by Columbus Crew SC creator Pedro Santos got 3.52% of the vote.
