AT&T Goal of the Week: Week 27
Didier Drogba has already recorded his first start, first hat trick and first MLS Player of the Week nod in the last seven days – now he looks set to add a first MLS AT&T Goal of the Week award to his resume.
The Montreal striker is running away with the Week 27 honor. Drogba's first career MLS goal, from the Impact’s 4-3 home win against Chicago last Saturday, currently holds a whopping 51.57 percent of the vote. He’s more than 23 percentage points ahead of his closest rival, Seattle forward Obafemi Martins, whose finish of Clint Dempsey’s lovely chipped through ball in the Sounders' win against Toronto has 28.11 percent of the tally.
New England Revolution midfielder Diego Fagundez is well off the pace in third-place, with his goal in the Revs’ win against Orlando notching 8.51 percent of the vote. FC Dallas attacker Michael Barrios (7.02 percent) and Philadelphia Union striker Conor Casey (4.79 percent) round out the field in fourth- and fifth-place.
It’ll take some serious doing for Martins to catch Drogba, but there’s still time to make your voice heard. Vote now; the winner will be announced on Friday.
Voting runs until 11:59 pm PT on Thursdays. For complete coverage of the AT&T MLS Goal of the Week – including an archive of all of this season’s nominees and winners – click here.
