Clint Dempsey’s walk-in goal in the Seattle Sounders’ 3-0 win on Sunday against the New England Revolution put the exclamation mark on one of the finest team moves you’ll ever see. But it's not running away with the first AT&T MLS Goal of the Week award of the 2015 season.
Although Dempsey’s goal leads the field with more than 37 percent of the vote, New York Red Bulls midfielder Lloyd Sam is not far behind, garnering more than 30 percent of the vote for his curling strike in a 1-1 draw on Sunday at Sporting Kansas City.
The other three nominees are well off the pace, with Mix Diskerud’s history-making goal for expansion club New York City FC coming in with 16 percent of the vote, Toronto FC forward Jozy Altidore’s first tally against Vancouver registering more than 10 percent and LA Galaxy star Robbie Keane’s strike against Chicago notching almost 7 percent of the vote.
There’s still plenty of time to make your voice heard, with voting open until late Thursday night. The first Goal of the Week winner of 2015 will be announced on Friday on the basis of your online votes.
Voting runs until 11:59 pm PT on Thursdays. For complete coverage of the AT&T MLS Goal of the Week — including an archive of all of this season's nominees and winners —click here.
