Austin FC have appointed Nolan Sheldon and Rodrigo Rios as assistant coaches on Josh Wolff's staff, the club announced Friday. Sheldon and Rios join fellow assistant Davy Arnaud.
Sheldon previously spent 10 years with D.C. United, including the last five as an assistant on Ben Olsen's staff. He also worked in D.C.'s academy, rising to the role of academy director before joining the first team staff, as well as IMG Soccer Academy.
Rios was most recently with Atlanta United as the club's U-19 academy coach and played a supporting role in the first team under head coach Tata Martino from 2017-18. He originally came to America in 2005 to play for the Atlanta Silverbacks of the USL.
“Nolan and Rodrigo are excellent additions to our first team coaching staff, bringing MLS and international experience, as well as proven abilities to develop youth talent through academy programs and into MLS first teams,” Wolff said in a club statement. “I’m excited to start working with Nolan and Rodrigo, and I know they are highly motivated to join Austin FC and to move to our home city.”
Austin will join MLS for their inaugural season in 2021. They currently have two players under contract in Paraguayan duo Rodney Redes and Cecilio Dominguez.
