For Austin FC fans watching Nashville SC’s remarkable run in the Audi 2020 MLS Cup Playoffs wishing that could be them next year, here’s a goal to get excited about.
Cecilio Dominguez, the 2021 expansion club’s first Designated Player, scored his third league goal for Club Guarani in the Paraguay’s Primera Division Clausura Sunday.
The 26-year-old, on loan with Guarani until the end of the year, started the scoring sequence by running at the Sportivo Luqueno center backs before playing a quick combination with Raul Bobadilla that sent him into the box. Dominguez chipped a defender with his first touch and then fired past the goalkeeper from outside the six-yard box to double Guarani’s lead in the 70th minute.
Dominguez, who signed with Austin FC from Argentine club Independiente in August, came on just five minutes earlier. He replaced Rodney Reyes, the 20-year-old Paraguayan forward who was Austin FC’s first signing in July.
