Austin FC, roughly six months out from debuting in MLS, have sold out of season ticket memberships, the club announced Monday.
The expansion club gets underway in 2021, and support from Austinites keeps on growing. They’ll be witnessing the league’s 27th team at Austin FC Stadium, a 20,500-capacity facility. It's slated to feature the second-largest roof canopy in MLS, providing shade for nearly every seat watching the Texas-based side.
Austin FC president Andy Loughnane told MLSsoccer.com last week that 75% of their stadium will be accounted for by season tickets. They’re also amid discussions with stadium-naming sponsors, and could add another 1,500 seats to their soccer-specific home.
When Austin FC do compete, fans will see midfielder Cecilio Dominguez and forward Rodney Redes suiting up under head coach Josh Wolff. The Paraguayans are their first two players, with Dominguez recently signing a Designated Player deal from Argentine club Independiente. Otherwise, Wolff and sporting director Claudio Reyna are carefully planning their pre-2021 roster build.
The introduction of Austin FC will give Texas three MLS clubs alongside FC Dallas and the Houston Dynamo. The city currently has no major professional sports teams – the University of Texas Longhorns are the biggest draw – so the soccer team’s been embraced with open arms.
Without even playing a game, Austin FC are already in demand. Before reaching capacity, only a limited selection of supporters' section safe-standing season tickets were previously available.
