TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Signing
Austin FC have acquired defender Zan Kolmanic from Slovenian club NK Maribor on loan with a purchase option at the end of the season, the club announced Wednesday. Kolmanic will join on March 15.
Kolmanic, who turned 21 Wednesday, is primarily a left back and came through the club's youth system. He has made 45 appearances with the club's first team, including 14 appearances in 2018/19 as the club won the Slovenian league title. A youth international with Slovenia, Kolmanic has most recently featured with his country's U21 side.
“We are pleased to welcome Žan to Austin FC,” sporting director Claudio Reyna said in a club statement. “He is a young, promising left back whose profile and style of play aligns with our match identity. We look forward to having Žan join the remainder of the roster in the coming weeks.”
The defender joins Austin FC's inaugural roster, adding another option alongside MLS veteran Ben Sweat at left back. The club also have the likes of Matt Besler, Jhohan Romana and Nick Lima to headline the defensive unit.
