Move over Michael Jordan, it’s time for Basti’s letzter tanz.
On the heels of ESPN’s hugely successful 10-part documentary detailing Jordan and his great Chicago Bulls team, former Chicago Fire FC star Bastian Schweinsteiger is the subject of an Amazon Video documentary about his famed career.
Made by German production company Barefoot Films and produced by Til Schweiger, the film, titled “Schw31ns7eiger: Memories – Von Anfang bis Legende” debuts June 5 and charts Schweinsteiger’s remarkable career, highlighted by winning the World Cup with Germany in 2014.
Unfortunately for U.S.-based fans, it is currently only available in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. An Amazon rep told hottimeinoldtown.com there was no “information on distribution partners in the United States.”
While the film covers the whole of Schweinsteiger’s career, cameras were given behind-the-scenes access in Chicago and Orlando ahead of his final match at the end of the Fire’s 2019 season. That included the moment he told teammates he just played his last match.
“Hey guys, I just wanted to let you know — that’s it,” Schweinsteiger said in the visitors locker room at Exploria Stadium after the Fire’s 5-2 win. “I stopped playing soccer.”
