Bayern beat Fire 4-0 as Schweinsteiger scores in tribute match

Bastian Schweinsteiger - Arjen Robben - Tribute match - Bayern Munich

If only just for 45 minutes, Bastian Schweinsteiger was back playing for the club where he became a legend on Tuesday in Munich. Naturally, he stepped up to the occasion and scored for his former side.

In Schweinsteiger's tribute match, Bayern Munich beat the Chicago Fire 4-0 as the man of the evening split halves with his current Fire teammates before switching to captain Bayern for the second half.

Serge Gnabry opened the scoring for the German champions in the 7th minute and Sandro Wagner doubled the home side's lead before halftime. With Schweinsteiger wearing Bayern-red after the break, Arjen Robben added a third goal for Munich.

In the 83rd minute, the moment all fans were waiting for, Basti got on the scoresheet. It was his last involvement in the match, as he was then substituted.

The Fire fielded a strong starting XI including Nemanja Nikolic, Aleksandar Katai and Dax McCarty. Brandt Bronico took Schweinsteiger's place in the Fire XI and head coach Veljko Paunovic made three more subs in the 76th minute.

After beating Hoffenheim in their Bundesliga opening match on Friday, only Joshua Kimmich retained his place in the starting XI and no Bayern player played more than 60 minutes.

All Bayern players wore Schweinsteiger's No. 31.
