Let there be no doubt – Bradley Wright-Phillips has earned his place among the MLS goalscoring greats.
The New York Red Bulls forward found the net twice on Sunday evening against Toronto to bring his season total to 20, with the second goal (above) making him the first player in league history to record two regular-season campaigns with 20 goals or more.
That's right – the likes of Landon Donovan, Jaime Moreno and Chris Wondolowski never did it. But with 2016's haul to go along with a single-season record 27 goals in the 2014 season, Wright-Phillips now finds himself all alone in the record books.
The man known as 'BWP' came into the game already holding an MLS record for most goals over a three-year span, with 62, and extended his one-goal lead over Chris Wondolowski with his two strikes against Toronto.
Arguably making the feat more impressive is the fact that Wright-Phillips has not scored a single penalty all year. Six of his 27 goals in 2014 game via the penalty spot, as did two of his 17 in 2015.
