Bradley Wright-Phillips' goal-scoring exploits are by now well-known across Major League Soccer. With his brace in Toronto last weekend, the New York Red Bulls hitman reached the 20-goal milestone with four games to spare in the 2016 campaign, running his personal regular-season total to 65 since he impressed New York on trial and signed with the team in July 2013.
It's a rampaging run that has led coach Jesse Marsch to dub him the best player in the two-decade history of the MetroStars/Red Bulls franchise.
It's also one that Marsch no doubt wants Wright-Phillips to continue on Saturday night when the Red Bulls host the Montreal Impact (7 pm ET, MLS LIVE).
But that prolific track record isn't just good by the Red Bulls' standards, or even all of MLS's, as it makes the veteran forward the highest-scoring Englishman in any major league in the world over the past three years.
Obviously it's tricky to compare across leagues, but the list below underlines the sheer weight of Wright-Phillips' achievements in front of goal. It's worth noting that he – as well as a certain other MLS marksman from across the pond who makes this list – reaped his stats in a shorter season than the one his countrymen take part in back home.
(Even though it's a second-tier league, we're including the English Championship here, given its quality as well as its status as a welcoming home for domestic talents, especially in light of the relative paucity of Englishmen abroad.)
Here's the rundown of the top eight English goal-scorers (regular-season league play only) since July 2013.
