Brothers Jose & Jaime Villarreal join exclusive club in LA Galaxy win

LA Galaxy midfielders Jose and Jaime Villarreal joined a pretty exclusive club on Wednesday night, becoming just the ninth set of brothers in league history to ever take the field as teammates in an MLS match.

Both Villarreals started in LA’s 3-1 win at Colorado on Wednesday. Jose, 23, went the first 64 minutes before being subbed off, while Jaime, 21, played the full 90. The Galaxy Homegrowns are the first set of brothers to start the same game since Bradley and Shaun Wright-Phillips both started for the New York Red Bulls on Sept. 20, 2015.

Brothers to play together in an MLS match:

DaMarcus and Jamar Beasley (2001 Chicago Fire)
Judah and Micah Cooks (2000-01 D.C. United)
Jim and Jeff Curtin (2007 Chicago Fire)
Gabriel and Michael Farfan (2011-12 Philadelphia Union)
Chris and Sean Henderson (1996-98 Colorado Rapids)
Daouda and Ibrahim Kante (2003 New England Revolution)
Alexi and (MLS Digital’s own) Greg Lalas (1997 New England Revolution)
Jose and Jaime Villarreal (2017 LA Galaxy)
Bradley and Shaun Wright-Phillips (2015 New York Red Bulls)
