Searching for a second straight win over the US men’s national team, Canada has named their 23-man roster for a Nov. 15Concacaf Nations League match at Exploria Stadium, home of Orlando City.
The group features nine players with MLS ties, as the Vancouver Whitecaps and Toronto FC each lead the way with three call-ups. Orlando, LAFC and the Montreal Impact each have one player as part of head coach John Herdman’s team. For the Toronto players, they'll join up following Sunday's MLS Cup Final against the Seattle Sounders.
Les Rouges are currently atop League A, Group A on nine points, and moved into a Hexagonal qualifying spot in the latest FIFA World Rankings. That bump up occurred after they beat the USMNT, 2-0, back on Oct. 15 at BMO Field behind goals from Alphonso Davies and Lucas Cavallini.
“Every game that we play from now until June 2020 is massive for Canada, so we are motivated and focused to get better every camp we are together,” Herdman said in a team release. “If we keep improving, we believe that we can qualify for the Concacaf Hex and that’s all that matters to us at this stage.”
With the victory over the USMNT and back-to-back wins against Cuba, Canada have already qualified for the 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup and ensured their spot in League A of the next edition of Concacaf Nations League.
Here’s a look at the full roster, which is spearheaded by Davies, a Vancouver academy product, and KAA Gent forward Jonathan David:
