The Canada national team’s upcoming World Cup qualifier against Mexico could be played in front of a record crowd.
Canada Soccer confirmed Friday that more than 30,000 fans have booked their tickets to the March 25 match at BC Place in Vancouver.
Due to demand, seating to BC Place's upper bowl went on sale last week. The top level of the 54,500-capacity stadium is normally closed for soccer matches.
The lower bowl is sold out with a limited number of club seats just released for sale.
The match will also be broadcast on television in Canada through TSN and RDS and digitally on-demand with TSN GO, CSA announced.
“We want to thank our fans for the terrific support and we are extremely pleased to be opening additional inventory to enable the Canadian soccer community and fans to attend the match and cheer for Canada,” Canada Soccer president Victor Montagliani said last week in a statement.
Canada currently sit second in Group A of CONCACAF qualifying for the World Cup behind Mexico. Canada has a win and tie after beating Honduras at BC Place and settling for a scoreless draw in El Salvador in November.
