The man known as "El Pibe," Carlos Valderrama, warned us that he was going to do it. He said last month that he was going to dye pink his world-famous curly head of hair for a Sept. 8 breast cancer awareness walk in his native Colombia.
If the above video is to be taken as any form of evidence, the former MLS midfielder — who spent eight seasons in the league with three different teams from 1996 to 2002 — absoltuely followed through on that promise. That's not just pink, but that is really pink hair, if I've ever seen any myself.
It's always refreshing to see very famous, former footballers continue to do good things like this during their post-playing career lives, unlike some of the game's other legends might do.
As part of bringing attention to the cause, Valderrama recently asked local authorities to double their efforts to prevent breast cancer, according to a story by Diez. He stressed that breast cancer can be treated, but only if found early, and reminded everyone that it is a disease that may strike only women, but also affects men.
Hats off to you, Carlos. Not that you've ever worn one in your life.
