LAFC began their history with a two-game winning streak. They're now on a two-game losing streak.
After dropping their first game in dramatic fashion in El Trafico last week, in one of the most exciting games in MLS history, LAFC really struggled to get their mojo going in a 5-0 blowout loss to Atlanta United on Saturday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Posting a single shot on target in the match, LAFC kept the game to a one-goal deficit until the 67th minute, but a series of defensive breakdowns and mistakes late allowed the Five Stripes to pile on in the closing minutes.
LAFC forward Carlos Vela didn't mince words in the postgame press conference in assessing his team's performance.
"I think it was a hard game," he said. "We lost 5-0. We are building a team, I think we have to be together, it's time to be strong, to be a man, talk face to face and say what happened."
Vela, held without a goal or assist for the first time in his young MLS career against Atlanta, admitted that while the expansion team is still coming together, they need to play like a team and not individuals.
"We have to change this situation, we have to come back, like in the first two games, enjoy the game, play together. Because in the last minutes of the game, everybody tried to be selfish and do everything in the game. It's not like that. We have to be together all game, in hard situations too. And I hope we can change this situation and in the next game, do better."
