Carlos Vela is the MLS Player of the Month presented by EA SPORTS.
Again.
LAFC’s superstar was named April’s POTM on Tuesday, his second straight month to win the award, and with good reason: With five goals and two assists in five matches, he’s maintained the devastating pace he set in the season’s opening month as his team climbed to the top of the overall league standings and stayed there.
As part of every MLS Player of the Month award this season, EA SPORTS FIFA 19 will release a special FUT item to honor the winning player; this month’s recognizes Vela’s all-conquering April. Vela can be unlocked via a special Squad Building Challenge now live in FIFA 19 Ultimate Team.
After racing out to a 4-0-1 record in March, LAFC went 3-1-1 in April and currently sit two points ahead of their nearest pursuers, crosstown rivals the LA Galaxy, in the table. Vela, LAFC’s captain, has been instrumental in that success.
The Mexican international bagged a goal and an assist in the Black & Gold’s head-turning 4-0 road rout of D.C. United on Apr. 6, then notched an identical stat line in the 2-0 defeat of FC Cincinnati on Apr. 13 and netted twice in the 4-1 win over the Seattle Sounders on Apr. 21 before scoring again in the 1-1 draw at Seattle a week later.
Vela leads MLS in goals with 11, also tops the league charts in shots (6) and shots on goal (24) and has also chipped in five assists to date. LAFC next take the pitch on Saturday, when they visit Columbus Crew SC (7:30 pm ET | TV & streaming info).
MLS Player of the Month presented by EA SPORTS is voted upon by a panel of select national media members in a process conducted by MLS Communications.
