TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Signing
Chicago Fire FC have made their first signing of the offseason, acquiring Nigerian forward Chinonso Offor from Latvian first division Club FK Rīgas Futbola Skola, the club announced Friday.
Offor, 20, has spent the last two and a half seasons in the Latvian top tier, with 16 goals and seven assists in 40 appearances.
“We are very pleased to welcome Chinonso to the Fire family,” sporting director Georg Heitz said in a statement. “His signing is the latest example of our intention to add promising young players to the roster. With his skillset, we believe that Chinonso will complement our current attacking players very well and be a key contributor to the team.”
Offor signed a contract through 2023 with a club option for 2024 and will occupy an international roster slot.
The Fire announced their end of season roster decisions on Thursday, the most notable of which saw veteran forward CJ Sapong depart the club. Offor is currently the club's 28th player under contract.
Chicago fell just short of the playoffs in 2020, finishing in 11th place, one point behind Inter Miami and the final playoff place.
