The Chicago Fire's David Accam became the second MLS player to join the Common Goal movement on Tuesday, pledging to donate at least one percent of his salary to high-impact soccer charities.
Launched by Manchester United’s Juan Mata, Common Goal is a player-driven initiative designed to change the game for good. San Jose Earthquakes forward Chris Wondolowski joined the movement earlier this month; Accam is the first Ghanaian to join Common Goal.
“I’m very excited to join the Common Goal team and am looking forward to using the power of sport to make a positive impact,” Accam said in a statement released by the Fire. “This sport has given me so many opportunities, and it’s important for me to give back. At the end of my career, I want people to remember me as much for the impact I had on their lives as they do for my soccer achievements."
Accam had an excellent 2017 with Chicago, recording 14 goals and eight assists to help the Fire finish third in the MLS regular season standings.
