CARSON, Calif. – David Ferreira scored the game-winning goal and his fellow substitute Ramon Nuñez added another to complete a dramatic FC Dallas comeback in a 3-1 victory over Chivas USA on Wednesday night at StubHub Center.
Ferreira scored in the 86th minute on a deft, angled chip past Chivas goalkeeper Dan Kennedy, then Nuñez sealed the result with a curling blast into the top corner in the 90th. Both goals came after Jackson received his second yellow card for a hard challenge on Carlos Bocanegra with about 10 minutes remaining, helping FC Dallas snap their 11-game winless streak in dramatic fashion.
Blas Pérez scored the equalizer in the 71st minute on a shot that took a nasty deflection and rolled past Kennedy. Chivas USA had earned at least one point in three straight home matches.
The Goats went into the locker room with a 1-0 lead at halftime thanks to a goal from Bryan de La Fuente, a Chivas USA Homegrown signing in 2010 who rejoined the club on Tuesday and stepped right into the lineup in place of the suspended Tristan Bowen.
De la Fuente settled a perfectly placed chip in from Marco Delgado and stroked it past Raúl Fernández to send the Rojiblancos on their way to pulling off their first win since July 17.
FC Dallas (9-7-9) nearly got on the scoreboard first, but Kennedy made an acrobatic save on Pérez’s left-footed bender that appeared destined for the back of the net in the 14th minute. Fernández answered with his own diving stop, denying Carlos Alvarez his third goal of the year in spectacular fashion. Kennedy responded with another strong save against Je-Vaughn Watson at the end of the first half.
Edgar Mejía also returned to the starting lineup for the Goats (4-14-6), who were without Gabriel Farfan following his red card on Aug. 11. Bocanegra returned as well after sitting out the previous match due to suspension.
Ferreira started the game on the bench as new signing Mauro Díaz took over his usual playmaking duties at the heart of the FCD attack.
Up next for FC Dallas is a home match against the San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday, while the Rojiblancos are scheduled to face the New York Red Bulls on Sunday for the only time this season.
