TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS:Re-signings
Columbus Crew SC announced two moves on Thursday, as they have re-signed defender Gaston Sauro and goalkeeper Logan Ketterer for the upcoming 2018 season.
Sauro, 27, missed the 2017 season with a knee injury, but after joining in midseason in 2015 from a stint in Europe, the Argentine established himself as a regular in Gregg Berhalter's backline in 2016, before being sidelined due to injury. He has made 17 MLS regular season appearances and to go with four MLS Cup Playoffs games to date in his career.
“We firmly believe Gaston Sauro is one of the most physically dominant and talented center backs in MLS,” said Berhalter in a team statement. “Throughout his time with Crew SC, Gaston has been an important part of our team and we are excited that he is back. In addition to his skill set, his character and professionalism on and off the field in his time here have made him an important part of our locker room and we look forward to his progression in 2018.”
The 24-year-old Ketterer returns for his second season with Columbus, after having been drafted by the team in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft at No. 71 overall. The Bradley University product was a backup option last year and is expected to continue that role in 2018, with Zack Steffen expected to remain the starting goalkeeper.
“Logan is a guy who does everything a coach asks him to do and he made a lot of progress in his first year in MLS,” Berhalter explained. “We look forward to seeing his continued development in his second year as a professional.”
