Supporters' Shield contenders Columbus Crew SC have added to their depth with a known MLS commodity the club has signed forward Krisztian Nemeth.
The veteran will join the club pending receipt of his ITC, P-1 Visa and completion of mandatory quarantine period under local government and MLS health and safety protocols, and will occupy an international roster spot.
“Krisztian is a seasoned veteran whose international experience will greatly benefit our squad and help increase competition amongst our attacking group,” Crew SC president and general manager Tim Bezbatchenko said in a club statement. “We want to welcome Krisztian to Columbus - a player who is a proven goal scorer and is familiar with our league, we expect him to quickly integrate into our team. We look forward to his contributions to the club down the stretch this season.”
Nemeth, 31, is well-traveled during his professional career, and is perhaps best-known in MLS circles for his two separate stints with Sporting Kansas City, first in 2015 and again in 2018-2019. He also played for the New England Revolution in between those runs with SKC, making 21 appearances for the Revs from 2017-2018. For his MLS career, Nemeth has scored 20 goals and dished out 12 assists across 4,625 minutes in 82 games.
The Hungarian figures to act as a depth piece for the Crew behind Gyasi Zardes, but he can also operate in the wide attacking positions. He was mostly recently a member of Slovakian side FC DAC 1904 Dunajská Streda.
