Major League Soccer Commissioner Don Garber and other MLS leaders will visit St. Louis next Tuesday to meet with area elected officials, business leaders and members of the local soccer community to learn more about the city’s potential as a home for an MLS expansion club, according to a press release issued on Wednesday by the St. Louis NFL stadium task force.
Garber and other MLS officials will meet with Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon, St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay, and Dave Peacock, who co-leads the governor’s task force charged with advancing plans for a new stadium along the Mississippi River in downtown St. Louis. According to the press release, plans for the new stadium include accommodating a FIFA regulation soccer field.
Garber, representatives from USL side Saint Louis FC and other local soccer figures will meet with the public at 5 pm ET next Tuesday in St. Louis’ Ballpark Village next to Busch Stadium.
St. Louis has a long soccer tradition, with the city and its surrounding areas represented by at least one player on every US team in World Cup history. Several St. Louisans currently play in MLS, with the Houston Dynamo’s Brad Davis and Will Bruin two of the more notable active players from the area.
