Changes might be coming to Columbus Crew SC this offseason, but Adam Jahn will not be one of them.
Crew SC announced on Tuesday that they have re-signed Jahn, who joined Crew SC in July via a trade with the San Jose Earthquakes. The forward made 22 appearances overall and recorded six goals in 2016, most notably scoring five times in 12 Crew SC appearances.
Jahn’s five goals in 12 appearances for Crew SC set a new career scoring best for the 25-year-old. Jahn previously had recorded six goals in 62 MLS appearances (22 starts) before arriving in Columbus this summer.
Of all players in Major League Soccer that scored at least five regular-season goals in 2016, Jahn’s goals per 90 minutes played average (92.33 minutes/goal) was tops among the group, providing an offensive threat each time the 6-foot-3 forward took the field.
“We are pleased to have re-signed Adam and are proud of his efforts since arriving to Columbus this summer,” said Crew SC sporting director and head coach Gregg Berhalter in a statement released by the club. “He has had a positive impact both on and off the field. Since joining the team, Adam has progressively improved in both the understanding of our system and his goal scoring confidence. We look forward to working with him next season while continuing to watch him develop as a striker.”
Jahn made his Crew SC debut in a substitute appearance on July 31 at Toronto FC and scored his second overall goal of the season – his first for Columbus – on Aug. 24 against the Philadelphia Union. In the club’s next match, Jahn earned his first start for the Black & Gold in the contest against his former club, the Earthquakes. Jahn would add a goal in an appearance at the LA Galaxy on Sept. 3 and appeared in three straight matches in a stretch of seven days at the end of September.
In the month of October, Jahn started three of the club’s matches, recording his first career brace in the 2-2 draw at Chicago on October 13 before playing a full 90 minutes just three days later and adding a goal in a road loss to the New York Red Bulls. For his efforts, he was named to the MLS Team of the Week for Week 32/33. His second goal at Chicago on October 13 was nominated for MLS AT&T Goal of the Week for Week 33.
Jahn made a career-best 26 MLS appearances in 2015 with San Jose before splitting the first part of the 2016 campaign between the Earthquakes and Sacramento (USL). He scored in his first MLS appearance this year, with San Jose on April 3 vs. D.C. United.
