No Cristiano Ronaldo-style mishaps here.
The much-anticipated statue of David Beckham outside the LA Galaxy's Dignity Health Sports Park was unveiled on Saturday afternoon, and it's a spitting image of Beckham in action with the Galaxy:
Joining Beckham at the event were two other pillars of the Galaxy's success in his era, former head coach Bruce Arena and teammate Robbie Keane:
Beckham, who is about to embark on a new chapter as the owner of incoming expansion team Inter Miami CF, featured for the Galaxy from 2007-2012 after a glittering career with Manchester United, Real Madrid and the English national team. In addition to being a driving force in the introduction of MLS's Designated Player rule, Beckham helped the Galaxy to a pair of MLS Cup titles in 2011 and 2012, and helped greatly to increase the profile of both the team and the league.
The Galaxy kicked off their 2019 campaign at home, coming from behind to beat the Chicago Fire 2-1 with the help of 16-year-old debutant Efrain Alvarez. The winning goal was scored by Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
