No matter the future, D.C. United youth academy player Issa Mudashiru has already made an impact overseas with his love of the game.
That’s because the Under-13 defender recently spent his spring break visiting Ivory Coast, distributing equipment provided by academy teammates, his school classmates and his church members to one of the nation’s most popular and influential soccer academies, ASEC-Mimosas.
“I love soccer. I love watching soccer,” Mudashiru explained. “And some of these great football players come from communities like this.”
Mudashiru met with coach Boukary Bamogo and many players at the academy that produced Yaya and Kolo Toure, among others. And he hopes to make the trip an annual tradition.
“Overall, it was a really cool experience,” he said. “I wanted to be someone to help ... some of these players that are just as good, but they don’t have the right opportunities or resources to help them get to that level. I just wanted to be part of helping them get there.”
