TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Extension
D.C. United announced on Tuesday that defender Frederic Brillant has signed a two-year contract extension, keeping him in Black-and-Red after a sterling 2019 campaign.
“One of our focuses this off-season was bringing back the backline that performed so well in 2019,” said D.C. GM and VP of soccer operations Dave Kasper in a statement. "Frederic was a main component of the defense that conceded the second-fewest goals in the league last season and we’re excited to retain him for the 2020 season and beyond."
The Frenchman arrived from New York City FC exactly two years ago and has since made 61 MLS appearances (57 starts) for United, chipping in two goals and three assists (and 1g/1a in postseason action) in addition to his steady center-back play.
In 2019, Brillant set career highs in appearances (34), minutes (2,961), goals (2) and assists (2) while being one of only 18 players in the league to appear in every regular season match.
