Striker Darren Mattocks gets his first chance to face his most-recent former club when FC Cincinnati faces D.C. United on Thursday night in Preseason presented by Advocare.
DC United
The Black-and-Red won their preseason opener, 1-0 over USL squad Bethlehem Steel, and more importantly appeared to have escaped a serious injury to star forward Wayne Rooney.
While Rooney exited after only 18 minutes with a leg injury, he told The Washington Post afterward that he expected to be available against Cincinnati. D.C. currently have no other forwards on their official roster.
2019 Rosters and roster statuses will become official in March. Below is a current list of players signed by the club:
FC Cincinnati
Mattocks scored 10 goals in 2018, his only season in D.C., but moved on to Cincy after he failed to play a significant role down the stretch in Washington following Rooney's arrival.
In his new club, he finds an old challenge, trying to win time over fellow striker Fanendo Adi. It was Adi who ultimately claimed the starting spot when both were at Portland, but injuries allowed Mattocks to contribute regularly.
Mattocks scored FCC's first-ever preseason goal in a 1-1 draw against the Montreal Impact. Cincy USL carryover Forrest Lasso has the club's other preseason goal in a win over Colorado last Saturday.
