David Villa and Bastian Schweinsteiger are two of MLS’ brightest stars. They’re both Designated Players. They’ve both won the World Cup, the UEFA Champions League and nearly every other major honor a footballer can claim.
But who’s the better baseball pitcher?
ESPN FC posed that question this week after the two icons visited their respective Major League Baseball clubs to don pinstripes and throw out the ceremonial first pitch.
For Schweinsteiger, it was a trip to the mound at Wrigley Field, home of the defending World Series champions Chicago Cubs, on Tuesday. One day later Villa took the pitch at Yankee Stadium – arrayed in diamond configuration on this occasion – for a quick toss before the Yankees’ game vs. the Toronto Blue Jays.
As you might expect from two world-class competitors, both men did their homework, practicing their throws at training beforehand with some advice from North American teammates…
Thank you @Yankees for inviting me to throw out the first pitch. It was an honor! Thanks @DidiG18 and @CC_Sabathia for the help. #PlayBallpic.twitter.com/ggkHoCdA91
