Mexico won’t be wearing their famous green shirts when they take the field for the Gold Cup and Copa América this summer, with adidas unveiling El Tri’s new-look jerseys – one black, one white – on Thursday.
Mexico and adidas released the jerseys in a video (shown above) titled, “El Verde Lleva en el Corazon,” which translates to “Green is Worn in the Heart.” The color – so long synonymous with Mexico’s national team – is barely featured on the new shirts. Green only appears in the crest and in a neon accent on the sleeves of the black jersey and the bottom of the white one.
Mexico’s senior national team will first wear the new uniforms on March 28, when they take on Ecuador in a friendly at the LA Coliseum. The US will first see the new threads on April 14, when they host El Tri in a friendly at the Alamodome in San Antonio.
