Decrease Coronavirus Risk
The health and safety of League and club employees, players and fans is of utmost importance to Major League Soccer. We have created a League Office Task Force that is closely monitoring the COVID-19 situation and are consulting with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Health Canada (HC), infectious disease specialists and other public health entities to receive the most updated information and guidance.
Six easy steps to prevent the spread of coronavirus
There are currently no medications to prevent or treat coronavirus, but you can limit your exposure and prevent the spread of germs:
- Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitize. cdc.gov/handwashing
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
- Cover your mouth with a tissue when coughing or sneezing, then throw the tissue in the trash.
- Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
- Stay home when you are sick.

Commissioner Garber's message to MLS supporters
Dear MLS Supporters,
Like all of you, Major League Soccer continues to monitor the impact of COVID-19 (coronavirus) on the world around us. Earlier this week, we decided to take the necessary step of suspending our season for 30 days. Our league and clubs were united in our goal to protect the well-being of our fans, players, officials, employees and the general public.
We are working closely with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Public Health Agency of Canada and local public health authorities on the appropriate next steps and to plan for the resumption of the 2020 MLS season.
We are evaluating the options for rescheduling the postponed matches to a later date. Tickets already purchased for those games will be honored on the new date. In addition to the updates you will receive from MLS and your club, please check MLSsoccer.com or your team’s website for the latest news.
During this rapidly changing time, we will take every necessary precaution, and I ask you to do the same. This moment in our history transcends sport. It is a time for all of us to come together and take care of each other.
Your support has always meant everything to us, but never more so than now. I thank you and send best wishes to you and your families.
Sincerely,
Don Garber
Commissioner
Matches Suspended
Major League Soccer announced on Thursday that it was extending the suspension of all matches, with a target return date of May 10. The extension was made in accordance with Sunday's guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to cancel all mass gatherings of 50 or more people for the next eight weeks.
In accordance with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s guidance to postpone events involving more than 50 people over the next eight weeks, Major League Soccer has extended the postponement of its matches during this period of time. MLS remains focused on playing the entire 2020 season and is evaluating all options, including pushing back the end of the season and playing MLS Cup in December, as the league did prior to the 2019 season. The league is also identifying other available dates. Throughout this process, MLS will continue to prioritize the safety of our fans, players, employees and partners and to coordinate with federal and local public health authorities as well as other sporting organizations.
