Ex-Galaxy star Giovani Dos Santos signed by Liga MX giants Club America

Giovani Dos Santos finally has a new club home and for the first time in his career it'll be in Liga MX.

Mexican top-flight Club America announced his arrival, ending a four-month spell in limbo after the LA Galaxy exercised a contract buyout option prior to the March 1 deadline for 2019 roster compliance. His brother, Jonathan Dos Santos, is a staple of the LA Galaxy lineup this season.

The 30-year-old "Gio" played three-and-a-half seasons with the Galaxy, scoring 26 goals and registering 22 assists in 77 MLS regular season matches. Injury absences and spells on international duty with Mexico limited his MLS production in the months leading up to his contract buyout.

Dos Santos will be back in LA at his former home stadium Dignity Health Sports Park for the Campeon de Campeones match between Club America and Tigres. The winner of that match will face MLS champs Atlanta United in the second annual Campeones Cup on August 14.

Club America will also be involved in the first annual Leagues Cup competition pitting four MLS clubs against four Liga MX clubs. Dos Santos and Las Aguilas open play in the quarterfinal stage on July 24 against the Houston Dynamo.
