Saturday marked a special occasion for one-time New York City FC starlet Jack Harrison, who scored his first goal in competitive play since moving from NYCFC to Manchester City in January.
Harrison, who is spending the 2018-19 season on loan at second-division Leeds United, earned his second consecutive start in league play and rewarded manager Marcelo Bielsa's faith in him by saving a result for his side.
With time running down and Leeds in danger of losing their unbeaten start to the season, Harrison collected the ball just outside the area, took a few touches to his left to create space, and fired a low shot that skipped through and nestled in the back of the net.
The result kept Leeds one point clear at the top of the standings seven games into the new campaign, as the storied club looks to return to the Premier League for the first time since the 2003-04 season.
Harrison, 21, is a native of England, though he moved to the United States at age 14 to continue his development in high school and college soccer. He was taken first overall in the 2016 MLS SuperDraft by Chicago and immediately traded to NYCFC. In his two years with the Cityzens Harrison made 55 appearances (50 starts) in regular-season play, tallying 14 goals and 13 assists in that time. He was ranked No. 2 in MLSsoccer.com's 24 Under 24 in his rookie year and No. 3 in 2017.
