Chalk up another twist in the Fabian Castillo saga.
After a week of indications that the electric FC Dallas winger was on his way to Turkish outfit Trabzonspor, ESPN analyst Taylor Twellman reported during halftime of Sunday's Seattle-LA Galaxy match that, "as of right now the deal for Fabian Castillo to Turkey is dead."
An FC Dallas spokesperson confirmed to MLSsoccer.com on Sunday that, "We have not reached an agreement with any club regarding Castillo's transfer and we fully expect him to be at training this week."
Castillo was not in the 18 for FC Dallas' Sunday afternoon game against the Vancouver Whitecaps.
It's a near-180 after reports on Monday and Tuesday characterized a deal between Dallas and Trabzonspor for the 24-year-old as imminent. Video even emerged on social media last week of Castillo receiving a rapturous reception from Turkish supporters at the airport.
Castillo is in his sixth year with Dallas, and has racked up 34 goals and 30 assists across 159 regular-season appearances. He also has one goal in eight playoff appearances. This year, he has netted five goals and five assists in 22 appearances and has been an important part of FCD's run to the US Open Cup semifinals, while they will face the LA Galaxy on August 10. On the international stage, Castillo has represented Colombia at both the youth and senior levels, with three caps for the full national team since making his debut in September 2015.
