This week, we try out a new format for the Fantasy Report. We’re calling it "Fire and Ice." Get it? Who’s “On Fire” and who’s “Ice Cold”? Hopefully it will help you pick the right players each week.
On Fire
Will Bruin (Houston Dynamo, $7.9m) — Even though the “Orange Crush” are winless their last three games, Bruin has shined with 4 goals and one assist. There’s a good chance we’ll see the “Dancing Bear” goal celebration in the next two weeks, when the Dynamo play four times.
Maicon Santos (D.C. United, $7.9m) — The Black and Red’s most recent diamond in the rough is the talk of the league with his six goals and one assist in his last eight games. Much of the credit goes to his supporting cast, including Dwayne DeRosario, Chris Pontius, and Nick DeLeon, who should continue to supply him with goal-scoring opportunities.
Chris Wondolowski (San Jose Earthquakes, $11.9m) — Wondo has actually been on fire since day one of the season, but he’s been an inferno of late: three goals in his last two games. With Steven Lenhart now installed in the starting XI, Wondolowski should actually find himself with more space to operate in.
Ice Cold
Robbie Keane (LA Galaxy, $10.4m) — After starting the season with three goals in his first three games of the season, Keane hasn’t found the back of the net in six straight games. He even missed a penalty.
David Estrada (Seattle Sounders, $7.0m) — Four goals in the first two games of the season, including a hat-trick in the opener, seemed to herald a banner year. But since then, defenses have keyed on him and he hasn’t scored — or produced an assist —in his last six matches.
Sanna Nyassi (Montreal Impact, $7.3m) — The Impact’s main offensive target showed some promise early on, registering a goal and an assist. But since scoring against New York in Week 4, he has faded away, failing to score and seeing is playing time reduced.
