TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Re-signed
FC Cincinnati have re-signed four players ahead of 2021, the club announced Wednesday. The deals give the club 19 players currently under contract for next season.
Joe Gyau, Nick Hagglund, Caleb Stanko and Przemysław Tyton will all return to the club. Tyon and Hagglund were out of contract while Gyau and Stanko had their original contract options declined.
“We look forward to having all four players back on our roster for the next MLS season,” GM Gerard Nijkamp said in a club statement. “Even though we did not exercise their player options, we identified each of these four players as good fits for the team that we are building. We look forward to adding to our roster in the coming months ahead of the new season.”
Gyau, 28, was a bright spot during Cincy's disappointing 2020 season. He started 20 of the club's 23 games at right wingback or right wing, scoring once. Gyau, who has three US men's national team caps, joined Cincy in the summer of 2019 after spending a decade in Germany at various clubs, including Borussia Dortmund. He made one appearance for the club's first team, instead earning most of his minutes in the second and third tier of German soccer.
Stanko, 27, joined Cincy ahead of their expansion season and has earned one cap with the USMNT. He's made 36 MLS appearances after spending time in Germany and Switzerland, mostly with SC Freiburg.
Tyton, 33, made 12 starts for the club last season. He started 15 games in 2019 and is a former Poland international.
Hagglund, 28, is a Cincinnati native and has made 33 appearances for the club after being acquired ahead of the expansion season from Toronto FC.
Cincy finished bottom of the Eastern Conference in 2020 but have opened plenty of flexibility for big change in 2021.
