FC Dallas and center back Matt Hedges have agreed to a new three-year contract using Targeted Allocation Money (TAM), the club announced Tuesday. The deal includes club options for 2023 and 2024.

Hedges, 29, has made 243 MLS appearances with the club after being selected No. 11 overall in the 2012 MLS SuperDraft. He was named 2016 MLS Defender of the Year and was named to the MLS Best XI for two consecutive seasons (2015, 2016) as well as the MLS All-Star squad for three consecutive seasons (2017, 2018, 2019).

“I love the club, the players, the coaching staff and everything about it,” Hedges said in a club statement. “It makes sense for my family and me to re-sign and be here for the foreseeable future.”

During his time with the club, Dallas have won a Supporters' Shield and U.S. Open Cup. Hedges passed former Dallas forward Jason Kreis in starts and minutes played for the club.

“We’re thrilled that Matt has recommitted to FC Dallas on a long-term basis,” said FCD president Dan Hunt. “He is an important part of what we’re doing here and we’re going to continue to build around that foundation.”
