For the third time in five years, FC Dallas meet OKC Energy in the U.S. Open Cup when the squads reunite Wednesday night at Southern Methodist University's Westcott Field.
FC Dallas won the inaugural meeting, 4-1, in the 2016 Fourth Round and advanced past the USL Championship side via penalty kicks after the teams finished deadlocked 2-2.
FC Dallas
FC Dallas, which won the USOC in 1997 and 2016 and reached the final two other times, are 34-20-6 all-time in the competition, including 20-6-3 in games played in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.
They enter this year's Open Cup with just one loss in their last four games, including a wild 2-2 draw with the San Jose Earthquakes Saturday at Avaya Stadium. An own goal by goalkeeper Daniel Vega gave the visitors a first-half lead, but the Quakes rallied on goals by Chris Wondolowski and Magnus Eriksson before Francis Atuahene leveled in the 65th minute, scoring his first MLS goal on his 23rd birthday and just 42 seconds into his MLS debut.
OKC Energy
OKC reach the fourth round after scoring a combined seven goals in a pair of earlier round wins. In the second round, they defeated NTX Rayados, 3-1, with Amir Sasivarevic broke the stalemate in the 51st minute. Christian Eissele and Je-Vaughn Watson added a pair of late penalty kicks to secure passage into the third round.
There, OKC Energy knocked off the Tampa Bay Rowdies 4-3. The teams combined to score five goals inside the opening 32 minutes with Deshorn Brown netting the decisive goal on the hour mark.
