In the interview, he revealed that while playing for Turkish club Gençlerbirliği in 2018, an MLS agent contacted him to let him know that two MLS clubs, including Atlanta, were interested in his services. He traveled to Atlanta in September for a week-long trial, and though he reports that went well, the actual call to join the squad came from current head coach Frank de Boer less than two weeks ago.
