He says he hasn’t been contacted by the Fire, but former Mexico national team manager Miguel Herrera told a Chicago outlet that he’d be interested in leading the club that recently let go of its head coach.
Herrera told Vivelo Hoy that he does “not rule out going to lead the Fire” after their former manager and technical director Frank Yallop was fired two weeks ago. Herrera's comments are contrary to reports out of Mexico last week that the Fire had been in contact with him.
But Herrera noted in the interview that he knows new Fire general manager Nelson Rodriguez, who was a former executive with Chivas USA and most recently served at U.S. Soccer and that Chicago is a “very beautiful city.”
Herrera lost his post with El Tri following an altercation with a journalist at the Philadelphia airport following their Gold Cup championship this summer.
Rodriguez isn’t slated to take over his new post until Oct. 19, and a Fire spokesman previously told MLSsoccer.com that the coaching search wouldn’t begin until that time.
