One of the longest-tenured players in the history of Real Salt Lake will be transitioning to a front office role after his recent retirement, owner Dell Loy Hansen said in an interview on Utah's ESPN 700 on Tuesday.
Tony Beltran, who spent his entire professional career with RSL from 2008-2019, will work as an assistant general manager effective Jan. 1, Hansen said.
Beltran, 32, made 245 appearances over his stint at RSL, playing at least 20 games in every year from 2011-2017. He was sidelined the past two seasons with chronic knee issues before officially retiring in September.
Hansen also said the club will be making another announcement on Wednesday, which could be related to current general manager and coaching vacancies. RSL was coached by Freddy Juarez on an interim basis following the departure of Mike Petke earlier this season, but it hasn't yet been announced if Juarez will retain the position or if the club will look elsewhere.
Salt Lake GM Craig Waibel also resigned from his post in September.
