FC Dallas have a new forward in town.
Designated Player Franco Jara has joined the club for small group training ahead of his summer move to the club, after signing a pre-contract agreement for the Secondary Transfer Window this winter. He will be eligible to play in the MLS is Back Tournament, pending receipt of his P-1 Visa and International Transfer Certificate (ITC).
Jara, who turns 32 next month, joins Dallas on a free transfer as his contract with CF Pachuca expired this summer. He scored 76 goals and 19 assists across 158 appearances with the Liga MX club.
His time with Los Tuzos included lifting the 2016 Clausura and 2017 Concacaf Champions League trophies. Jara has scored once in four caps for Argentina’s national team, with his last appearance coming in a June 2011 friendly against Nigeria.
With Jara on the depth chart, head coach Luchi Gonzalez has plentiful options in attack. Jara joins Zdenek Ondrasek and Ricardo Pepi as natural center forwards, while Jesus Ferreira and Fafa Picault are also more than capable of playing through the center.
Dallas started the 2020 season strong before play was suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with a win and a draw from their first two matches. At the MLS is Back Tournament, they were drawn into Group B with the Seattle Sounders, Vancouver Whitecaps and San Jose Earthquakes.
