Venezuela scored one of the goals of the Copa America Centenario to take an early lead on Mexico in their de facto Group C title game on Monday night.
Jose Manuel Velazquez gave El Vinotinto the early lead, hopping on his bike and smashing a side-volley over Mexico goalkeeper Jesus Corona and into the roof of the net in the 10th minute to put Venezuela up 1-0.
The winner of Monday’s match will finish first in Group C. Should the match end in a draw, Mexico would win the group. The Group C winner will take on the Group D runner-up in the quarterfinals on Saturday at Levi’s Stadium, while the second-place finisher will have a quarterfinal date with the Group D winner on Saturday at Gillette Stadium.
